Open World Post: Aviario, CT

At first glance, Aviario could be any normal small New England city - it's got its fair share of well-preserved historical buildings, a lovely park, a reasonably happy community, and a decent amount of "townies" who've been around forever and know everyone and everything there is to know about living there.

At second glance, there are strange things that were probably a trick of the mind - a flash of light, an animal looking at you as though it were watching you, someone who just lit their cigarette without a lighter.

At third glance, you start looking closer, and find out at least one thing: magic is real. Depending on how closely you look ... you might find out more than you wanted to know about who uses it, and why, and how.

Just pass through, crash with someone you happen to have met before for a weekend, poke your nose where it doesn't belong ... it's all up to you, the city is an open book. Just ... don't go near that old house on the hill. The owner's really tired of having to turn away everyone who goes up there just to ask about the "ancient curse".

Crowley - OTA

[in the North end of town, near the hospital, there's a little complex of shops. it's looking a little more run-down than the rest of the city, but still in good shape, and not completely a dump. besides, there's a cafe nearby that looks like it's relatively busy for the time of day. near the on-ramp of the parking garage, there's a man in tattered jeans and a denim jacket covered in pins and patches, lurking in the half-light like he belongs there.

as he lights a cigarette, the extra light picks up the green and blue highlights in his hair, and he looks up at you, sharply]

Somethin' I can do for ya?

[Stopping through in Aviario, Scott couldn't help but stretch his legs. He needed a break, and that little side-adventure through the countryside of Conneticut chased by cops who hadn't liked the look of his UK plates and the reaper on his back hadn't helped his mood.

He needed off and a walk about, maybe some coffee.

So, having parked up his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R, sure most of the others in the US Charters preferred Harleys, but in the UK, Harleys were more of a collector's item than a feasable method of riding, and Scott liked feeling the speed in his body, he heads down the on-ramp, past the other man, his kutte proudly showing the Reaper with the decals "Sons of Anarchy - Newcastle." Bold as brass.

He, of course, stops, looking over his shoulder at the man in the semi-darkness, having not noticed him before.]

Eh?

Ridin' through. [he said it more as an observation than a question, turning so the black diamond 1% patch on his shoulder was visible. he had a proper Angels jacket, but he hadn't worn it in decades, preferring the more general suspicion that came with looking like a garden-variety street punk] Could give you a tip or two on where to go, f'you follow.

[A One-Percenter. In this terretory, that meant Hells Angel or worse. The Sons and the Angels generally had an amicable relationship with each other, meaning they stayed out of each other's way.

...Still.

He turns to face Crowley, the patches on his front more visible. On the right breast is where the Charter patch usually goes. For SAMCRO it's "Redwood Original," for SAMNEW, it's "Lonnen Magpie." On the left breast is the rank patches... "Sgt. At Arms," "Unholy Ones," "Men of Mayhem." Sgt. At Arms was easily understood, the enforcer of a charter. Not your average grunt, but not top of the food chain, either.

Still, Scott turns, hands visible, because he doesn't want trouble.]

Nah, you're alreet, man. Only passing through, like. Won't be more than an hour.
not_that_crowley: (yes I'm a bastard thanks for noticing.)

[personal profile] not_that_crowley 2013-11-18 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[the accent makes him smile, a surprisingly affable expression for an Angel talking to a Son. in truth, it's been decades since Crowley acted for the Angels - his usefulness as one of their rank ran its course, but some of the contacts and opportunities that one little black patch presents have not. plus, it's always good to see another from across the pond.].

No time for a catch up over a pint, even? Could stand to hear the news. [usually he leaves the wool-gathering to the Informers, but like hell Fritz would manage not to trip over himself just at the sight of this one, God save his wholesome squeaky arse.]

Not much news to part, mate. New around here, wouldn't know much.

[The little black patch has Scott on his guard. The reason there's history between the Sons and the Angels is because of the Sons, oftentimes blatant, disregard for club boundaries. They don't wear the diamond, but not all "outlaw" gangs do.

It's a healthy rivalry. One that, usually, doesn't involve in violence on first sight.]

But I'd hate to be rude. If there's something I can help with.
not_that_crowley: (actually interested in you.)

[personal profile] not_that_crowley 2013-11-18 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[lucky for him, Crowley loves a man who doesn't know what boundaries are. also, if Scott looks again, some of those other patches and pins are contradictory: a smiley face button, old brass rank bars of some sort, various smart-aleck phrases, and in a prominent place on the collar, a silver and enamel yin-yang with a bolt through the centre. this guy's got his fingers in a lot of pies.

fingers which, for the record, still hold a few flakes of traffic-cone orange nail polish for some reason.]

Doesn't have to be news from here. You really gonna pass down a free cold one, mate?
westgaterider: (lol)

[personal profile] westgaterider 2013-11-18 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[Of course he's noticing the pins and patches. Anything that might give him the edge should tits suddenly become upwardly inclined.

He decides to risk it.]

It's not the free pint, more the fact it's with a southerner, like.

[A joking tone there, almost hesitant, testing the waters.]

Oh, so you think it'll sour your cider f'you drink it in my bloody presence, is that it? [he'll just test it right back. that's the best part, after all. pushing and poking and prodding to see where the cracks and the soft bits are. ... not to the extremes he's done in years past, no, not by far. once they even gave him thumbscrews. but this is no time for nostalgia, he's having plenty of fun in the here and now, bear-baiting]

More like bloody sweeten it like the southern sugar-plum fairy y'are.

[Given the fact that, with his build, Scott could probably be mistaken for a bear if he was crouched in a dark alley, that's an accurate descriptor of this activity.

Pushing back all the harder, pushing the north/south divide. Southern fairy. Your move, Crowley.]

[enter one horrible Sluagh, her fae maen neatly and thoroughly disguised by a magical human appearance. a gothy, gangly teenager kind of appearance, but still. she's approaching this man with a look nothing short of disgruntled on her face. she likes all the extra magic, it's much better than the soul-sucking banality of the last city, but she can't tell if she's in reality or in the dreaming or if any of these people are going to try and eat her life essence the second she stops paying attention.

she's getting tired of swapping worlds. this is bogus. she speaks very quietly, practically a whisper.]

Yeah, hi, uh. Can I be totally weird and ask you some questions that make me sound like I'm crazy?

[if she can sense extra magic, she picked the right man to ask. it doesn't flow around him like the others she's seen in town, it goes through him instead - there's a direct connection between him and the current, even if it's not constantly active. like having cable but the TV is currently turned off. he shoots her a weasely grin, all teeth and mischief but not much actual danger]

Those are the very best questions. I'm all ears.

Fantastic.

[she sits down in a huff, right across from him, right on the edge of the street. if any cars are coming, well, they'll just have to watch out for her. she's got pedestrian's right of way or something.]

First... Where am I?

[she'd be speaking more politely if, again, she wasn't mostly convinced she was speaking to a physical manifestation of the dreaming. he sure looks like one of the Kithain, though. maybe a Nocker.]

Aviario, Connecticut. [he's used to having to confirm it for some people ... a few of the other Informers or liasons travel straight through the ley lines, so sometimes they miss a right turn at Albuquerque or somesuch, and come up at the wrong junction. it doesn't happen often, but - he's not bothered] Where were you tryin' to be?

We're on Earth?

[she wasn't expecting that! her volume almost goes from "whisper" to "library voice" in her surprise.]

Great! [chopping her hand against her other palm decisively.] I'm trying to get to Seattle. Washington.

[And there's one teenaged girl walking toward you, looking thoroughly confused..]

Hey... Do you happen to know where I could find a map... Or even the name of this town? I'm uh kinda new around here.

[She gives him her best winning smile.]
